Girls of Brazil project continuing to support the troops into 2010

Posted by admin in Swimsuit Calendar on 07-08-2009

Project founder Jeremiah Thompson and model Dayana Thompson recently spent their weekend selling autographed copies of the 2010 calendar at the Testy Festy event in Rock Creek, Montana.  This world famous biker party helped the couple generate enough calendar sales to donate about 500 more calendars to troops in Afghanistan this coming year.

Last year Girls of Brazil donated 20,000 calendars to troops in Iraq & Afghanistan.  This year we are trying to do another big donation to the troops and this event helped at least in a small way.  Thanks to everyone at the Testy Festy for supporting us.Dayana giving her time to help the troops in 2010Dayana making photos with some of the attendees

Also more letters of thanks from the troops:

Jeremiah,

I appreciate the calender bro,  My company just got a box of em in and there’s calenders all over the office now.  We’re a flight company of Blackhawk helicopters about halfway through our tour here.  We’re stationed out of Fort Drum, NY and I think everyone wants to take their midtours down to Brazil now.  Anyway just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate your support.

Take Care

CW2 John Botto

Thanks so much for the calendar.  It was unexpected and very thoughtful.   Its always great to see the support we have of others and now a days it is few and far between.  The calendar will hang on my wall the rest of my deployment and will help me keep track of things I need to accomplish and how much time I have until I get to go home and see my family.  Let the lady’s from Brazil know that they are great models and I thank them very much.  Thanks again for your support, you really brightened up my day.

Just wanted to drop a quick note to thank you for the calendars you donated to the troops overseas.  I just received one and it’s hanging in my office.  It definitely gives me a little mental vacation every now and then.  Hope all is going well and thanks again.VR,

Matthew Mackey

Jeremiah,

I just wanted to send you a quick note to thank you for your kind gift and letter.  Please know that your mere thoughts of good wishes are enough to suffice.

I must say, you have a great job!  Where do I wait in line to get a job like that?  Just kidding, my wife would kill me if I was around those beautiful women all day.

I put the calendar up for all of my guys to see and they are very appreciative as well!  Most of them will come by and look for a moment and then get back to their work.  It surely seems  to brighten their day.  I can tell you, that it brightens my day!

I am not a true critic, but I feel you have some true talent.  The shots from April and May were spectacular!  I especially like the slow motion shots of the water.  My favorite model, I think is Dayana, but they are all very beautiful.

Please thank the models for us as well and tell them we have adopted them as our Company mascots.

Sincerely,

Ronald R. Galuppo Jr.

Marcie Speiza Playboy Cover Model
2009 Girls of Brazil participant, Marcia Spezia, is a Playmate of the month for the January edition of Brazil Playboy Magazine.  Marcia was one of 18 participants in the making of the 2009 Girls of Brazil calendar.  And although she was not chosen as one of the 14 girls displayed in the calendar then it was more because I could not get a great photograph then because of anything about her.  She was a true professional and I am gratefull she was able to participate.

Desire and a plane ticket to Florianopolis, Brazil—that’s all it took for Jeremiah Thompson, a Missoula dot-com businessman and amateur photographer, to realize a life-long dream. He’s become a swimsuit photographer.

Thompson flew to Brazil in January to begin work on the “Girls of Brazil 2009 Swimsuit Calendar.” Most of his subjects weren’t professional models, but rather women in bikinis who liked having their photos snapped at sunrise or sunset, some without payment.

“It was too easy,” Thompson says. “I wasn’t paying, I wasn’t a professional photographer, I wasn’t backed by a photography studio…but just about everyone I wanted to shoot photos of agreed to have photos taken.”

Those women will now provide an unexpected service: boosting morale in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thompson recently donated 5,000 calendars to troops abroad. To top it off, a percentage of the proceeds from every calendar sale supports injured soldiers through the nonprofit Wounded Warriors Program.

“He’s really got a heart for helping people,” says Jennifer Hayes, marketing manager for Thompson’s Floripa Calendar Project.

Thompson says supporting the troops was an important move. His dad is a retired lieutenant colonel and Thompson grew up calling the military home. He’s the only man in his family who didn’t enlist.

“I guess if my dad wasn’t in the Army, I wouldn’t have been exposed to that lifestyle growing up,” Thompson says.

Hayes says the project’s philanthropic aspect has attracted positive attention. PMG International, a periodical wholesaler in San Antonio, purchased 2,000 calendars for troops abroad. And although Thompson missed the February distributor’s deadline for 2009 calendar samples, Ingram Book Group, the nation’s largest publishing distribution house, said it’s definitely interested in 2010.

Philanthropy also has its perks. Thompson spoke to the Independent by phone from Aruba last week, traveling for business with his girlfriend, whom he met while working on the calendar.

“I think anyone can do it,” Thompson says. “It’s just a matter of buying a ticket, going down there and doing it.”
